Abstract

Background. The issue of presentation of information about life abroad aroused an interest among Russian researchers. However, the historical evolution of the main strategies in the process of informing about foreign events in 1946–1953 has never been covered. The main objective of the study is to examine and analyze the algorithm of distribution of information about life abroad in the USSR in 1921–1953.
Materials and methods. The author used a variety of research approaches and methods for studying the sociohistorical reality. The main methods were historical or historical-comparative, historical and systematic. Besides, the study used the principle of historicism, which allows considering all the facts and phenomena in the
development and involves the analysis of the object of investigation in connection with the specific historical conditions of its existence.
Results. The activity of Soviet central and regional periodicals covering events abroad in 1946–1953 was analyzed. In order to understand the mechanisms and to assess the impact of the effect of various newspaper articles on the mass consciousness, and, therefore, to justify the selection of the Soviet press strategies of informing the papers of domestic and foreign researchers in the field of social psychology and media impacts were also studied. In addition to newspaper articles the documents from the Department of socio-political organizations funds from the state archives of the Penza region and the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History were examined in the study.
Conclusions. The analysis of archival materials and newspaper publications of 1946–1953 allows to conclude that the system of informing of Soviet citizens about life abroad was extremely centralized. Soviet media used the methods of influence on mass consciousness which were applied widely in the world; the whole media system was an effective means of propaganda.
